BCPNP Update

The federal government has set B.C.’s 2025 provincial nominee allocation at 4,000, a 50% decrease from 2024. The BC PNP is adjusting its plans, affecting ITAs and student stream openings, while keeping the Health Authority and Entrepreneur streams active.

Skilled Workers Category

The BC PNP offers pathways for skilled workers, healthcare professionals, recent graduates, and entry-level or semi-skilled workers. Skilled and healthcare workers need job offers, while post-graduates in science from BC institutions don’t.

Express Entry BC

Express Entry BC aligns with the federal government’s Express Entry immigration selection system, allowing eligible applicants to receive priority processing of both their BC PNP application and, if nominated, their permanent residence application.

Entrepreneur Immigration.

To immigrate to BC as an entrepreneur, choose from three options: the Base Category (for business owners, currently suspended), the Regional Pilot (for starting a business in small communities), or Strategic Projects for foreign companies setting up in BC, with up to five key staff eligible for residency.

Skills Immigration

The BC-PNP offers pathways for different workers and graduates. The Skilled Worker Category is for individuals with a job offer and several years of experience. The Healthcare Professional Category is for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals with offers in health occupations. The International Graduate Category suits recent Canadian graduates with a BC job offer, while the International Post-Graduate Category is for science graduates from BC institutions with no job offer needed. The Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Worker Category covers workers in tourism, food processing, trucking, or those in BC’s Northeast Development Region.

FAQs & Tips

British Columbia offers several immigration pathways: Skills Immigration, Express Entry BC, and Entrepreneur Immigration. First, choose the stream that fits your situation and check your eligibility. If required, register through the SIRS system, then submit your application via BCPNP Online. After receiving a provincial nomination, you can apply for permanent residence through IRCC.

Applicants in the International Post-Graduate or Healthcare Professional categories can skip SIRS and apply directly online. Once registered, you’ll get a score and enter a pool. If your score meets the cutoff, you’ll get an invitation to apply, with 30 days to submit your application. If nominated, you can proceed with your permanent residence application — and if nominated through Express Entry, you can choose to accept it.

The BC PNP offers pathways for skilled workers, entry-level and semi-skilled workers, international graduates, post-graduates, and healthcare professionals. An Express Entry profile isn’t required, but most candidates need a job offer unless applying as an international post-graduate with a Master’s or PhD in natural, applied, or health sciences from a BC university. The province also provides three immigration options for entrepreneurs looking to start or buy a business in B.C.

First, determine your eligible immigration stream and category. Then, register with the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) through BCPNP Online, unless you’re applying for the International Post-Graduate or Healthcare Professional categories, which don’t require SIRS. You’ll get a score based on factors like job, education, and language, and enter a selection pool. If your score meets the cutoff, you’ll be invited to apply for a provincial nomination, with 30 days to submit your application. If nominated through Express Entry, you must accept the nomination to proceed.

B.C. offers a high quality of life with friendly, welcoming communities and rich cultural diversity. Vancouver Island has mild weather, with warm, dry summers and wet winters, while Northern B.C. experiences colder conditions. Snow is rare in most areas.

For most BC PNP categories, a valid job offer is mandatory. However, certain streams under the Skills Immigration category, like the International Post-Graduate stream, don’t require one. This allows graduates with advanced degrees in eligible fields to apply directly without employer sponsorship.

Yes, for Canadian citizens and permanent residents living in B.C., the Medical Services Plan (MSP) is free.
