Canada to Send Invitations for Parents and Grandparents PR in 2025

Exciting News for Sponsors Inviting Applications in 2025
In a recent update on March 7, 2025, Canada’s immigration department revealed that some Canadians and permanent residents will soon be invited to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency. This means more families could be reunited in Canada next year!
What’s New?
Earlier this year, in January 2025, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had announced that there would be no new invitations for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in 2025. Instead, they would only be processing applications from the 2024 intake. However, this new announcement changes things! Now, individuals who submitted an “interest to sponsor” form under the PGP back in 2020 could receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency in 2025.
When Will Invitations Be Sent?
Although the exact date is not yet confirmed, the government has promised to provide more details soon. What we know for now is that the invitations will be sent out through a random lottery system, which means it’s all based on chance once you’ve submitted the interest to sponsor form.
Who Can Sponsor?
To be eligible to sponsor your parents or grandparents, you need to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Moreover, sponsors must meet certain income requirements, and their relatives must be admissible to Canada.
However, you can’t directly apply for the PGP yourself. Instead, you need to submit an “interest to sponsor” form and hope that you get randomly selected for an invitation to apply.
What About 2020 Applicants?
If you submitted your interest to sponsor form in 2020, good news: you are part of the current pool! So far, invitations for the PGP have been sent to those who submitted their forms during the 2020 intake. While the program intake hasn’t re-opened since, the government is now moving forward with invitations for 2025.
Can’t Wait for an Invitation? Consider the Super Visa
If you’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident but haven’t yet been able to sponsor your parents or grandparents under the PGP, don’t worry! You can still bring them to Canada through the Super Visa program. This allows your family to visit and stay with you for extended periods—up to 5 years at a time, with the possibility to extend.
Super Visa Details
The Super Visa is available to parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It’s an excellent option if you’re looking to have your loved ones stay with you in Canada for a longer time. The visa can be issued for up to 10 years and permits multiple entries. However, applicants must purchase third-party health insurance for their stay, and sponsors must meet minimum income requirements.
Additionally, the Canadian government recently made it easier for Super Visa applicants to purchase health insurance, providing more options for coverage.
In Conclusion
With the exciting news about the PGP inviting applications for 2025, families in Canada have a great opportunity to reunite. Whether you’re eligible for the PGP or considering the Super Visa option, Canada offers pathways to bring your loved ones closer. Stay tuned for more updates and details from the government in the coming months!
