Canada Works to Stop Fraud in Express Entry Applications!
New Measure to Reduce Fraud
The Canadian government is implementing significant changes to its immigration system. Starting in spring 2025, candidates applying for permanent residency through the Express Entry system will no longer receive extra points for having a job offer. This change is specifically aimed at reducing fraud, particularly the illegal buying and selling of documents that make it easier for some individuals to immigrate to Canada.
Why the Change?
The primary goal of this change is to prevent dishonest practices, such as manipulating the system by obtaining fraudulent labour market impact assessments (LMIAs) to boost a candidate’s chances of being selected. By removing the incentive for such illegal activities, the government hopes to make the system fairer and more trustworthy for all applicants.
Who Will Be Affected?
This new rule will apply to all future candidates in the Express Entry pool, including those with job offers and those applying from outside Canada. However, if you’ve already been invited to apply or have an application in progress, this change will not affect you. Therefore, only new and current candidates who haven’t yet received an invitation will be impacted.
Immigration’s Role in Canada’s Growth
Canada’s economy greatly depends on immigration to drive its growth. As a result, this change ensures that the immigration system remains fair while still attracting the skilled workers needed to help strengthen the country’s economy. This adjustment will help ensure that the selection process stays transparent and focused on genuine applicants.
A Commitment to Fairness
Minister Marc Miller has emphasized that while these measures aim to reduce fraud, they will still allow Canada to continue attracting skilled talent. Immigration has always been central to Canada’s success, and these changes reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the immigration process and make it more responsive and fair.
These changes are part of the broader effort by the government to build a stronger, more equitable immigration system, ensuring that Canada remains a welcoming and fair country for all.
