About Claresholm’s Role in RCIP

The town of Claresholm, located in southern Alberta, is taking part in the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). This pilot program covers a 25-kilometre area around the town, including Granum and Stavely.

What is the RCIP?

The RCIP is a special immigration program that helps rural communities fill job gaps. However, it is employer-driven — meaning that foreign workers need to:

Get a job offer from a designated employer in the community.
Receive an endorsement from the community to apply for permanent residence (PR).

How Claresholm’s RCIP Works

Claresholm can nominate 30 people for PR in 2025. To manage applications:

Only 3 spots will be given out each month.
Any leftover spots will be used at the end of the year.
Also, only 5 spots are allowed for jobs in the Sales and Service industry for the entire year.

Why Priority Sectors Matter

Each RCIP community can choose five priority sectors. Only employers in these sectors can be officially designated to hire foreign workers.

Therefore, if you’re a foreign national, you must:

Get a job offer in one of the listed occupations from a designated employer in Claresholm.
Make sure the employer is either already designated or qualifies for designation within a priority sector.

Other Requirements for Applicants

Besides a job offer, foreign nationals must also meet other eligibility criteria, including:

Work experience
Language skills
Educational background
Proof of settlement funds

About the RCIP Program

The RCIP is a five-year pilot program launched by Canada in 2025. Its main goal is to:

Help rural employers find the workers they need.
Support growth in smaller communities.
Tackle regional labour shortages.

If successful, the RCIP could become a permanent program in the future.

Other Communities in the RCIP

Several other communities have also revealed their priority sectors. These include:

Timmins
Brandon
Sault Ste. Marie
Thunder Bay
North Okanagan–Shuswap
North Bay

Altogether, 14 communities are part of the RCIP. More towns are expected to share their sector lists and employer information soon.
