HCWP Home Support and Child Care Applications Are Now Closed
No More Online Applications for Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot: Home Support
The government has stopped accepting online applications for permanent residency under the Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot: Home Support (HCWP:HS). This happened on March 31, 2025, at about 2:25 pm EDT.
Alternate Formats Still Accepted
Even though online applications are closed, you can still apply using other formats, like paper, braille, or large print. However, most people need to apply online. These alternate formats are for people who have special needs or can’t apply online.
Application Cap Reached
The government set a limit of 2,750 applications for this year. Out of these, 150 spots were reserved for workers who are out of status (not officially recognized). Once the cap was reached, they stopped accepting online applications.
When Will It Reopen?
The Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot: Home Support will likely reopen in 2026. So, if you missed this chance, you’ll have to wait for the next opening.
What’s Next for Applicants Not in Canada?
Right now, there’s no announced date for when the Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot: Home Support (Applicants Not Working in Canada Stream) will open. However, the government is expected to announce it soon.
Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot: Child Care Also Closed
The Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot: Child Care (HCWP:CC) also hit its cap on online applications on the afternoon of March 31, 2025. So, just like HCWP:HS, you can’t apply online anymore for this program either.
Alternate Formats for Child Care Pilot
Like HCWP:HS, applications for HCWP:CC can still be submitted using paper, braille, or large print. But most people should apply online, unless they have special needs.
Caps for the Year
The cap for HCWP:CC is the same as HCWP:HS, with 2,750 spots available this year. 150 of those spots were reserved for workers who are out of status.
What Happens Next?
The government plans to reopen this program for online applications next year. So, if you missed out this time, there will be another chance soon.
Duration of the Pilot Programs
Both programs are part of the federal pilot programs, which usually last for five years. Sometimes, if the program works well, the government might make it a permanent immigration pathway.
Could This Lead to Permanent Pathways?
Sometimes, if a pilot program is successful, the government will decide to create a permanent immigration pathway. For example, the Atlantic Immigration Program started as a pilot and later became permanent.
Conclusion
The online applications for both HCWP:HS and HCWP:CC are closed for this year since their caps were reached. However, special format applications are still being accepted. The programs will likely reopen in 2026 or next year, and there’s a chance that successful pilot programs might become permanent immigration pathways.
