Here’s how businesses in Timmins can bring international talent on board:
Step 1: Become a Designated Employer
- Your business must be real, active, and operating in Timmins for at least 2 years.
- You need to be hiring in a priority job sector.
- Complete free training and commit to supporting the newcomer’s settlement.
Not allowed: Staffing agencies, consulates, or businesses owned by immigration consultants or applicants.
Step 2: Hire a Candidate
- Find someone qualified and offer a full-time, permanent job.
- Complete the Offer of Employment Form and help them gather their documents.
Step 3: Apply for Community Recommendation
- Prove that the job couldn’t be filled locally.
- Submit all documents through the online portal with the candidate.
Step 4: Selection Process
- Applications are ranked monthly using a points-based system (minimum 50 points).
- If selected, the candidate may get invited for an interview.
- Tie-breaker: Earliest submission wins.

Step 1: Check If You’re Eligible

- You need a full-time, permanent job from a designated employer in Timmins.
- The job must match one of the city’s priority sectors.
Tip: You can approach employers directly — the city doesn’t assign jobs.
Step 3: Employer Applies for Recommendation
Your employer will submit the Community Recommendation Application during the next intake.
Make sure they have:
- Your job offer form
- All your documents
- Proof that you meet the program rules
Step 4: Wait for Selection
- If your score is 50+ and the application is complete, you enter the candidate pool.
- Selections happen monthly, and top scorers get chosen.
- If tied, earlier submissions are picked first.
- Not selected? Don’t worry — you’ll stay in the pool for 6 months.
Step 5: Apply for PR
Once selected, you’ll get a recommendation certificate. Use this to apply for Permanent Residence (PR) through IRCC.
You have 6 months to apply after receiving the certificate.
Step 6: Settle into Timmins
Keep in touch with:

- The TEDC (Timmins Economic Development Corporation)
They’ll support your relocation, job integration, and community con️nection.
