Ontario's Expression of Interest: How will the new EOI system work?

One of Canada’s most preferred immigration programs is the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has introduced the Expression of Interest system in 5 streams. We will explain what EOI is, which streams in OINP will use this system, the registration process and how SPS Canada Immigration team can help you through this process according to the Government of Ontario.

What is Expression of Interest (EOI)?

It is a point-based system in which skilled migrants are selected based on information collected according to related fields such as education, language, skills, and work experience to meet Ontario’s economic and labour market needs.

With Expression of Interest, OINP aims to abandon the former first-come-first-served model and create a scoring and ranking system in line with the information to be obtained on specific subjects and make applications accordingly.

Which Streams in OINP will use the EOSystem?

OINP uses the EOI system in the following streams:

  • Employer Job Offer – Foreign Worker Stream
  • Employer Job Offer – International Student Stream
  • Employer Job Offer – In-Demand Skills Stream
  • Masters Graduate Stream
  • Ph.D. Graduate Stream

Employer Job Offer – Foreign Worker Stream

This stream is for the foreign workers with a job offer in a skilled occupation at an eligible Skill Type (0, A, B) of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) to get the opportunity to apply for a nomination from the OINP to live and work permanently in Ontario with this stream.

Employer Job Offer – International Student Stream

International students who are offered a job in a skilled occupation in Skill Type 0, A or B of the NOC get the opportunity to apply for a nomination from the OINP to live and work in Ontario permanently.

Employer Job Offer – In-Demand Skills Stream

With this stream, foreign workers who have a job offer in certain demanded professions such as agriculture, trucking, construction get the opportunity to apply for a nomination from the OINP to live and work in Ontario permanently.

Masters Graduate Stream

This stream will give the chance to apply for a nomination from OINP to live and work in Ontario permanently to people who are international graduates holding an Ontario master’s degree.

Ph.D. Graduate Stream

International graduates with an Ontario Ph.D. degree get the opportunity to apply for an OINP nomination to live and work in Ontario permanently.

Registration process

1- Registration of an expression of interest

Before applying to the above streams, interested parties must register an expression of interest to inform OINP that they want an invitation to apply.

With registration, OINP can collect important information about the applicant, such as education, language, skills, work experience, to meet Ontario’s economic and labour market needs.

Registering an expression of interest is not the same as applying to OINP or applying for permanent residency.

This registration is valid for up to 12 months until the application is invited if registration is not withdrawn. EOI registration is automatically deleted from the system after 12 months if there is no invitation.

2- Invitation

To apply for these streams, the person must have received an invitation.

When the applicant gets an invitation, the application must be submitted within 14 calendar days from the date of receipt of the invitation.

3- After the nomination

If the person is nominated as a result of the application to be made after the invitation, the next step is to apply through the IRCC for permanent residence.

Determine your immigration pathway

As everyone knows, failure to take action within the time limit is a situation that causes the loss of the right to apply. If you receive an invitation, you have a short period of time to apply for OINP, as mentioned above. In this process, our expert team will ensure that your application is made entirely. After being nominated as a result of your application, you will set out for PR and get one step closer to your dreams.
