Peace Liard Shares Which Jobs Are Needed for Immigration
What is the Peace Liard RCIP Region?
The Peace Liard region is in the northeast part of British Columbia. It includes several small communities such as Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, and Fort Nelson, among others. It also covers rural areas within the Peace River Regional District and the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.
What is the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP)?
The RCIP is a special immigration program that helps rural communities bring in skilled foreign workers. It is employer-driven, meaning employers in these communities select the workers they need. Once selected, foreign nationals can apply for permanent residence (PR) in Canada, if they meet all the conditions.
Peace Liard’s Priority Sectors
Recently, Peace Liard announced its key job sectors for the RCIP. These are areas where the community needs more workers. The five priority sectors are:
- Natural resources and agriculture
- Natural and applied sciences
- Education, law, social, community, and government services
- Sales and service
- Trades and transport
These sectors will guide which types of jobs are eligible under the RCIP in this region.
Why Do These Priority Sectors Matter?
Each RCIP community can choose five sectors and up to 25 job types (called National Occupation Codes or NOC codes) every year. Only employers in these chosen sectors can hire workers through the RCIP. Also, the job must be:
- Full-time
- Permanent
- Within one of the priority occupations
Requirements for Foreign Workers
To be eligible under RCIP, foreign workers must meet several conditions. Besides having a job offer from a designated employer in a priority job, they also need to:
- Have at least 1 year (1,560 hours) of related work experience in the past three years — unless they are international graduates and meet an exemption.
- Meet English or French language requirements.
- Have completed a Canadian or equivalent foreign education.
- Show that they have enough money to settle in the community.
What Happens After Approval?
If a community approves a foreign worker’s application, the person can then apply to the federal government for permanent residence. While waiting, they can also apply for a work permit if needed.
What’s Next for Peace Liard?
So far, Peace Liard has not yet announced which employers are officially part of the RCIP. However, other communities across Canada — like Brandon (MB), Thunder Bay (ON), and Pictou County (NS) — have already shared their priority sectors and jobs.
