consult NowThese select the highest-ranked candidates eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), or Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Express Entry programs.
The selection process prioritizes applicants based on their eligibility for programs such as FSW, CEC, FST, or a provincial nominee program, enabling IRCC to frequently target candidates already in Canada
The draws target candidates in the pool with work experience in specific occupations or strong French language proficiency.
To qualify for French language proficiency draws, you must first be eligible for Express Entry. It includes three programs: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades (FST), each with specific criteria.
You must take an approved French test, such as TEF or TCF, to prove your proficiency. A minimum NCLC 7 in reading, writing, speaking, and listening is required. This qualifies you for French-specific Express Entry draws.
If eligible, create an Express Entry profile to enter the applicant pool. Your CRS score determines your ranking. Strong French skills earn extra CRS points—25 for basic English ability and 56 for bilingual proficiency—boosting your chances in the French Language Proficiency Draw.
Express Entry conducts category-based draws specifically targeting French speakers. If your profile meets the criteria for these draws, you’ll be flagged as eligible.
Your CRS score and eligibility for the draw will determine whether you receive an ITA. French language draws typically have a lower CRS cut-off than general draws, increasing your chances of selection.l
Under Canada’s 2025 Immigration Levels Plan, 41,700 spots are allocated for category-based selection draws. While the targeted categories remain unchanged, the plan emphasizes three priorities: health care occupations, trade occupations, and French-language proficiency. Based on 2024 trends, over 26,000 spots are expected to be awarded to French-speaking applicants.
No, as long as you submit adequate French language results, the order in which they appear in your Express Entry profile does not matter.
French Language draws don’t follow a fixed schedule, but we expect around one draw per month. Staying in the pool keeps you eligible whenever a draw happens. Sign up for our Express Entry newsletter through your free account to get real-time draw updates.
Canada is committed to increasing French-speaking immigration, aiming for 8.5% of newcomers outside Quebec by 2025 and 10% by 2027. Programs like French Language Proficiency Draws play a vital role in achieving this goal and strengthening Canada’s bilingual identity.
If you speak French, now is the ideal time to create your Express Entry profile to maximize your chances in this expanding category. If you don’t speak French yet, this is a great opportunity to start learning, as it can enhance your immigration prospects and open doors to jobs in Francophone communities and Canada’s bilingual workforce.

An active Express Entry profile under one of these programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
Meeting the minimum requirements for the draw, including the CRS cut-off and tiebreaker rules.
Providing approved French-language test results with a minimum NCLC 7 in all four abilities: speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
