Welcome to SPS Canada Immigration’s IELTS page! If you’re looking to study, work, or immigrate to Canada, you’ll need to demonstrate your proficiency in English. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most widely recognized English language proficiency tests in the world, and it’s accepted by Canadian universities, employers, and immigration authorities.

IELTS Exam Overview

The IELTS test assesses your English language proficiency in four areas:

The test is available in two formats: Academic and General Training. The Academic test is designed for students who plan to study at a university or college in an English-speaking country, while the General Training test is intended for individuals who want to work or immigrate to an English-speaking country.

IELTS Scoring

The IELTS uses a nine-band scale to measure your proficiency in English. Your overall band score is calculated by taking the average of your scores in the four sections of the test. Scores are reported in whole and half bands. Canadian universities, employers, and immigration authorities typically require a minimum score of 6.5 or 7.0, but specific requirements vary depending on the program or job.
