Breaking Down Canada’s Express Entry Draw: December 18, 2023, Results Revealed
On 18th December 2023 Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 1325 invitations to apply in a no program specified Express Entry Draw with the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 542.
Beginning in June 2023, Canada now operates both “standard” and category-based draws for Express Entry.
Express Entry is the name of Canada’s application management system that handles immigration applications from three economic-class immigration programs for permanent residents. Specifically, the federal government uses this application management system to oversee applicants who apply for permanent residence in Canada through the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Immigration (IRCC) has conducted another Express Entry draw today, marking the department’s fourth draw in 13 days.
Below are the other two Express Entry draws holding this week:
On December 6, the draw type was general or for all programs, resulting in 4,750 invitations with a higher CRS cutoff of 561. The tie-breaking rule for this draw was November 8, 2023.
On December 7, the draw type for the Canadian Express Entry program was French-focused, with 1,000 invitations issued and a CRS cutoff of 470. The tie-breaking rule was set at October 3, 2023.
On December 8, the draw type for the Canadian express entry with issuing 5,900 Invitations and Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 481.
IRCC did not confirm a cause for the temporary pause in draws although on November 14 the department tweeted that there was an IT issue with the Express Entry profile builder for candidates who had received an ITA and were trying to upload their final application to IRCC’s website.
Two days later on November 16, the department reported that the glitch had been fixed but draws did not immediately resume as was widely expected.
There are many possible reasons IRCC may delay an Express Entry draw, such as if they are already on track to meet targets for Express Entry candidates set out in the Immigration Levels Plan, IT issues, staffing changes, or updates to the Comprehensive Ranking System.
