IRCC Strike comes to an end with conditional agreement
Latest Update -IRCC on strike update
On May 1st, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) employees resumed their work as a result of a tentative agreement being reached between the union and the Treasury Board.
The strike, which began on April 19, had an impact on services provided by IRCC and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
During the strike, no draws were conducted for International Experience Canada (IEC) candidates, but one Express Entry draw did take place.
Some IRCC services were fully or partially disrupted, including processing applications, in-person appointments or events, contacting IRCC through email, phone or social media, consular citizenship and passport services, and passport services in Canada. However, some services were still available, such as applying online, mailing applications to IRCC, using online accounts, and accessing some emergency services.
IRCC’s social media team is now available to respond to queries, as services are resuming.
How to Check the Processing Time IRCC
IRCC’s website provides current estimated processing times for various services. However, it’s important to note that these figures are based on the government’s performance over the past six months and may not accurately reflect the actual processing time for new applications.
As the strike has come to an end and IRCC workers resume their services, it’s hoped that the tentative agreement reached between the Union and the Treasury Board will lead to a productive and positive working relationship. With ongoing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the workforce, it will be interesting to see how both the Union and the Government navigate the future of remote work and other employment-related issues in the public service sector.
