New Alberta move option for tourism workers from March 1st.
Alberta opens doors for tourism and hospitality jobs.
From March 1, 2024, if you’re from another country, live and work in Alberta for a tourism or hospitality business, you can apply for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) through the new Tourism and Hospitality Stream.
To be eligible for the stream, candidates must:
- have been employed in the industry for at least six months.
- have a valid full-time, non-seasonal job offer from an approved employer operating within the appropriate industry, and.
- already be established in Alberta.
Apply for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream of the immigration program starting March 1, 2024. Limited applications accepted, processed promptly. To qualify, secure a valid full-time, non-seasonal job offer from an authorized company in the industry. Check eligibility and application details on March 1, 2024.
What is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program wants to bring in skilled workers and business owners to help the province. It helps the government find the right people for job openings and works with the federal government to fix any problems in the job market in Alberta.
Background on the Tourism and Hospitality Stream
Alberta’s tourism and hospitality sector is a key driver of economic growth and jobs throughout the province.
The Tourism and Hospitality Stream aims to attract and retain a skilled workforce to the province’s tourism and hospitality industry to support the growth of Alberta’s visitor economy.
In 2022, Alberta saw $10.7 billion in tourism spending—a $600 million increase from 2019.
Alberta Temporarily Pauses Opportunity Stream
- Alberta Advantage Immigration Program paused Alberta Opportunity Stream applications temporarily.
- Submitted applications will still be processed.
- Draft applications not submitted before the pause, including those awaiting payment, won’t be accepted.
- Pause is to manage workload, especially in addressing labor shortages.
- Program aims to strengthen the provincial economy by supporting labor needs in key industries.
- Eligible individuals with six months of work experience in tourism or hospitality can apply for related streams.
