2024 Brings Major Changes to Canadian Agriculture.
Big Agri-Food Pilot Changes Coming to Canada in February 2024!
- On February 10, 2024, Canada’s Agri-Food Pilot made two changes to help people in agriculture gain permanent residency. These adjustments impact how individuals secure their permanent residency status in the program.
- if you’re applying for something in Canada, and you already live there, you have a choice. You can either show that you have a job offer related to your application, or you can prove that you meet the educational requirement they’re looking for. It’s up to you, whichever one works better for your situation.
- Canada is now recognizing work experience gained through open work permits for foreign workers. This helps those in more vulnerable situations, making their experience count in the immigration process.

- Canada is keeping the Agri-Food program until May 2025, helping people in agriculture. In August 2023, they made two changes: family members can get work permits, and you can use union letters for work experience.
Occupations Eligible for the Program
The industries and occupations qualified for the AIFP include:
- Manufacturing Meat product
- Industrial Butchers
- Retail Butchers
- Specialized Livestock Workers and Farm Supervisors
- Food processing laborers
- Orangery, Production in Floriculture and Nursery, inclusive of the Production of Mushroom
- Harvesting manual workers
- General Farm Staff
- Animal Production except for Aquaculture
