No new applications for Study Permits until March 31,2024.
This might happen unless provinces make changes quickly. The reforms this week are meant to make things steady and reduce the number of new Study permits given to international students in 2024.
Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been relying on provinces to help implement the cap of approximately 360,000 new study permits in 2024.
However, prospective students may still be able to submit cap-exempt study permits.
New study requirements for study visa application
- Before, you only needed a letter from your Canadian school to apply for a study permit.
- Now, starting January 22, 2024, you also need a letter from the province or territory.
- Send both letters together to confirm you’re accepted.
- This helps make sure study permit applications are genuine.
- Provinces have until March 31, 2024, to figure out how to give these letters.
- We’re not sure if all provinces will do it on time, so there might be delays in applying for a study permit.
