What is PTE Academic?

The Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) is an English proficiency test that determines your English language ability based on 4 different modules namely: Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading. Students aspiring to study abroad take up this test to prove their English language skills. This test is also opted by individuals who are looking forward to applying for permanent residency in Australia and New Zealand.

Format of the PTE Academic Test:

PTE is a single-sit three-hour test that includes a variety of question types for all 4 modules. There are twenty different question formats on the test.  

Every module needs to complete in the allotted time frame. The total time for individual modules is mentioned below: 

Speaking and Writing: 54 to 67 minutes 

Listening: 30 to 43 minutes 

Reading: 29 to 30 minutes 

 There’s a lot more that you need to know about the test.  The test will be given at an official PTE centre where you will use a computer and headset to appear for all the modules. 

In the listening module you will hear a range of accents ranging  from British and American to even the non-native speaker tone. Make sure you are well practiced for this challenge.

1. How to register for the PTE exam?

You must register for a Pearson account to book the PTE exam. You must provide your name, address, and other necessary information before moving on to the final step, which is account creation. You must log in to your account on the Pearson website in order to register for an exam. After that, choose the day and testing location that works best for you. 

2. Is it possible to reschedule the PTE exam?

YES! you can. You have 14 calendar days from the scheduled test date to request a refund if you decide not to take the PTE Academic test as scheduled. You will only be eligible for a 50% refund if you file your claim prior to the 7-day deadline. You can easily plan a new date for or cancel your PTE Academic exam on the PTE website. You can change date and venue as per your choice. 

3.How many times can I appear for the PTE exam? 

The PTE exam is open to students for infinite attempts. You can retake the PTE if necessary to achieve your desired scores because sometimes the results may not match your expectations. The exam can be taken after a five-day break. However, you must hold off on applying for another PTE test until you have got the results of the prior one. You should investigate the test centre and date availability. 

4. How to prepare well in PTE Exam?

Students who want to perform well on their PTE Exam must refer some key reference material for valuable online sources. You can refer the official PTE Study Material available on the website and make sure that you appear for abundant PTE Practise Papers. Becoming familiar with the PTE Exam Pattern is an ideal practice to start with. 

5. What is the PTE eligibility criteria?

As a general rule, applicants who wish to take the PTE Academic exam must be at least 16 years old at the time of their test appearance. Additionally, applicants under the age of 18 must have a parental consent document that has been signed by their parents or legal guardians to take the PTE Academic exam. 

6. Which universities are accepting PTE in Canada?

Universities and institutions in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand recognise the PTE Academic exam widely. In addition to the nations previously mentioned, there are numerous other educational institutions that use PTE scores in their admissions procedures.

7. What is the difference between IELTS and PTE?

Students who are applying for admission to a university or college overseas can choose between the IELTS and PTE, both of which are Standard English language exams. Although many colleges and universities accept both IELTS and/or PTE scores, there are situations when a certain college or institution may favour one exam over the other. IELTS is a paper-based exam which is also available in the computer delivered format with the speaking module being in-person irrespective of the Pen-paper or Computer delivered format with a scale of 1 to 9 bands, whereas PTE is a fully computer-based exam with a scale of 10 to 90 points. 

8. Which is more difficult IELTS or PTE?

When evaluating students’ proficiency in the English language, PTE and IELTS both adhere to the same standards. To perform well on the test, it is crucial for pupils to practise well. The difficulty of the exam depends totally on the student’s proficiency with the English language. Candidates can review the PTE and IELTS exam patterns and syllabuses to learn more about the differences between the two. 

9.  How do I check my PTE Score?

After successfully taking the PTE Academic exam, you may check your results by logging into the online account that you made at the time of exam registration. You would get an email from PTE informing you when their findings would be available on your registered id. You only need to check your PTE score by logging into your account. 

Dos and Don’t before and on the PTE test day: 

  • Do have a good night sleep before the exam date. 
  • Be present at the exam centre 30 minutes prior with a valid ID proof. 
  • Do check the headphones. 
  • Under any circumstances, if you face any software or hardware glitches, let the member of the staff know about the same, they will resolve the issue. 
  • Strictly follow the rules, regulations and the instructions, you will be mentioned as “ No show” in case you breach any rule.
