OINP Interest System Launching in April

New OINP Expression of Interest System Launches in April

Following up on our blog post for the OINP Amendments, we had an interactive training session with the OINP’s Operations team on April 8th, 2021 as five of the immigration streams are moving to Expression of Interest.

If you are not sure what an Expression of Interest is, and the amendments that are implemented to the immigration streams of OINP, you must have missed out on our previous read on OINP Amendments: Expression of Interest

From the session, we would like to highlight a few but major changes introduced to the following immigration streams of Ontario Immigration Nominee Programs.

Expression of Interest – Immigration streams

  • Employer Job Offer Category streams (Foreign Worker, International Student, and In-Demand Skills)
  • Masters Graduate stream; and
  • Ph.D. Graduate stream

EOI Requirements and Implementation

  • The standard criteria for the immigration streams currently remains unchanged. If you qualified for the streams before the EOI update, you would still qualify in the Expression of Interest system.
  • Not every immigration stream would have the same scoring factors or criteria and would differ according to the streams.

EOI Scoring Factors and Process

Candidates are to create their OINP profile using a personal email address and a phone number, after which they are to appoint a representative, who can then work on the Expression of Interest.

An Expression of Interest uses the following factors to score a profile, however, not all the scoring factors will apply to every stream.

  • Labour Market/Employment
  • Education
  • Language
  • Location
  • Strategic Priorities

Further breakdown of the scoring factors will be provided on the OINP website in the upcoming weeks.

To submit an EOI profile, you are required to provide basic information about your education, skills, employment-related factors, language ability, and more. For each of the factors, the EOI system will score candidates and rank based on the information provided.

Once in the pool, individuals will be ranked with other candidates within the pool. If selected, candidates will receive the Invitation to Apply to the program.

Expression of Interest launch

The launch of the Expression of Interest system is categorized into two phases.

First phase: In the first phase, EOI will be launched for Employer Job Offer: International Students and Foreign Worker stream, which will be launched in April.

Second phase: Remaining immigration streams, Employer Job Offer: In-demand stream, Masters Graduate and Ph.D.Graduate stream will be launched in the summer.

There are no announcements on the exact date and timeline, however, the first phase is coming soon in the following weeks.

Expression of Interest Draws

As of now, there is no announcement on how frequent draws would take place. Further information may be available in the upcoming weeks.

Validity of EOI Profile

An Expression of Interest would be valid for 12 months and can be withdrawn as well. You can only create one Expression of Interest for one stream.

Why move to Expression of Interest?

Expression of Interest has been introduced to enable better responses to the demands in the labor market and help employers fill in the gaps of skilled workers. This would also create more predictability for applicants and the employers, to prioritize the right candidates, instead of the first ones.

SPS Canada Immigration is up to date with the latest changes involved in the current immigration industry and serves the right information to the interested individuals. We will come up with more updates on the OINP streams as soon as further information becomes available.
