Two new Pilot Programs launched by IRCC Canada

IRCC Welcoming Applications for Two New Pilot Programs in Communities

In the latest update, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) initiated the acceptance of community applications for two immigration pilot programs: the Rural Community Immigration Pilot and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot. These programs aim to support Canada’s long-term growth and linguistic vitality. Furthermore, plans are in place to onboard and train selected communities this fall. Although IRCC hasn’t confirmed a specific date for accepting newcomer applications yet, it is expected to happen soon.

IRCC aims to process approximately 5,500 permanent resident applications yearly through these programs. Additionally, the department has stated that 15 communities will be selected based on factors such as economic needs, availability of newcomer support services, and the capacity of their economic development organizations to collaborate with IRCC. Interested organizations can apply for their communities by completing an IRCC questionnaire by July 2nd.

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

Canada frequently introduces immigration programs as pilot projects to test their effectiveness before deciding on permanency. One such initiative, the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP), aims to attract skilled newcomers to rural communities in western Canada and Ontario to bolster local economies. Although eligibility criteria for communities and newcomers are pending release, the program is anticipated to replace the current RNIP.

Francophone Community Immigration Pilot

IRCC helps more French speakers settle in areas outside of Quebec to boost local economies. They believe speaking French or English well is important for newcomers to succeed. In 2023, they did better than expected, with 4.7% of newcomers speaking French. Now, they want to increase this to 6% by 2024, 7% by 2025, and 8% by 2026.
