What is Canadian Government going to offer them? 

Currently, digital nomads who work for a foreign employer can enter Canada under visitor status for up to six months at a time. However, recognizing the growing significance of this nomadic workforce, the Canadian government is determined to introduce even more favorable policies. 

Opening Doors to Canadian Opportunities 

As part of the, Canada’s Tech Talent Strategy Fraser said the federal government would be rolling out a special visa for digital nomads. The digital nomad strategy is going to allow people who have a foreign employer to come and work in Canada for up to six months, live in communities in this country and spend money in communities of this country. 

Canada envisions a scenario where some digital nomads, initially arriving in the country for remote work, may decide to explore further opportunities with Canadian employers. When presented with a job offer from a Canadian company, these skilled professionals will have the option to apply for a temporary work permit or even permanent residency.  

This pathway to residency aims to attract top-tier talent to Canada, enriching the nation’s workforce and enhancing its global competitiveness.

In the coming months, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will collaborate closely with public and private partners to evaluate the potential for implementing additional policies that will further entice digital nomads to choose Canada as their preferred work destination. This partnership approach ensures that all stakeholders have a say in shaping policies that are beneficial for both digital nomads and the Canadian society at large.
