What Forms are needed to Apply for a Visitor Visa for Canada?

The forms you need depend on whether you’re applying from inside or outside Canada. If you’re applying from outside Canada, you’ll typically need:

  • Application for Temporary Resident Visa (IMM 5257)
  • Family Information Form (IMM 5707)
  • Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (IMM 5409) (only if applicable)
  • Use of a Representative (IMM 5476): This is needed if you’ve used a representative’s services or if you’re appointing or removing one.
  • Authority to Release Personal Information to a Designated Individual (IMM 5475): Required only if you’re authorizing IRCC or CBSA to share your case details with someone else (e.g., a representative or an authorized relative)

 

Required Document for Application

Along with the forms, you’ll need to provide the following documents to support your visitor visa application:

  • Proof of fee payment.
  • A photocopy of the information page of your passport, showing your passport number, issue and expiry dates, photo, name, date of birth, and place of birth.
  • Two photos that meet the visa application photo specifications. Write your name and date of birth on the back. If you’re required to submit biometric fingerprints and a photo, these photos are not needed.
  • Proof of financial support to show you can support yourself and any accompanying family members during your stay in Canada.
  • A photocopy of your marriage certificate (if applicable).
  • A letter explaining the purpose of your trip.
  • A photocopy of your current immigration status, if your country of residence is different from your country of citizenship. You’ll need to provide proof of your legal status in your current country of residence.
  • For minors traveling alone or with one parent, custody documents or a letter of authorization from the non-accompanying parent(s) or legal guardians are required.
  • Any additional documents requested by the visa office in your region.

If you complete your application online, ensure all forms are validated, generating a barcode that will be automatically attached to the forms. For paper applications, print the barcode page and place it on top of your application.
