The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program is an immigration program with pathways for business-savvy immigrants, skilled workers, and recent graduates.

1. PEI Express Entry

Immigrants in the federal Express Entry pool who want to live and work in Prince Edward Island may qualify for PEI Express Entry. To be eligible, they must meet the criteria of a federal economic immigration class. Only candidates whose skills and experience align with the province’s labor needs will be considered for nomination

2. Labour Impact

Prince Edward Island’s Labour Impact streams offer foreign workers and recent graduates a chance to apply for provincial nomination. Those already employed by a PEI business may gain a faster route to permanent residency through the PEI PNP. The streams include Skilled Workers in PEI, Skilled Workers Outside Canada, Critical Worker, and International Graduate.

3.Business Impact

Individuals looking to immigrate to Canada on a business visa can use the Business Impact stream of the PEI PNP. They can either start a business with full ownership, invest in a PEI business, or obtain a work permit through investment for a quicker transition to life in PEI. The available options include Work Permit, while 100% Ownership and Partial Ownership streams are closed.

4. Atlantic Immigration Program

The Atlantic Immigration Program offers permanent residency to skilled workers and Canadian graduates wanting to live and work in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, or Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) is a program that allows Prince Edward Island to nominate immigrants to fill the economic and labour market needs of the province.

Yes, PEI has an immigration stream aligned with the federal Express Entry immigration selection system, also referred to as an enhanced Express Entry stream. This stream is called PEI PNP Express Entry (see question 6 for more information). By receiving an enhanced provincial nomination from this stream, candidates receive an extra 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, resulting in an Invitation To Apply (ITA) for permanent residence being issued at a subsequent draw from the Express Entry pool.

Applying to the PEI PNP is a two-step process. Candidates interested in living and working permanently in Prince Edward Island should first review the different PEI PNP streams to determine if they are eligible:

  • PEI Business Impact Category
  • PEI Labour Impact Category
  • PEI PNP Express Entry

Step 1: Once a complete application is submitted along with all supporting documentation, the processing time for eligible applications can be up to three months or more.

Step 2: Apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC, formerly CIC) for a permanent resident visa within six months of receiving your nominee certificate. Applicants, along with their spouse/common-law partner and dependents, if applicable, must meet all requirements for medical, security and criminal admissibility. IRCC has the final authority to issue a permanent resident visa.{/slide}

The province accepts expressions of interest under this category from foreign nationals who wish to invest in and actively manage a business in PEI. The category consists of one stream:

  • Work Permit Stream

Different streams have different requirements to attract different types of applicants. You may be eligible for more than one stream, but
PEI will only issue one nomination per applicant, so you must decide which stream best fits your situation.

You may include yourself, your spouse, and any dependent children (i.e. under 19 years of age). You may not include any other
family members, such as siblings, parents, or grandparents

Enquiries made within 60 calendar days of the submission of the application to the Office of Immigration will not be answered. After 60
days, submit enquiries to expressentry@gov.pe.ca. Be sure to include your file number in the subject line of the e-mail. If you do not
have a file number, you do not have an application in process.
