The first step to being invited to apply in a trades-specific draw is to enter the Express Entry pool.
To join the Express Entry pool of candidates, you must qualify for one of the following three programs.

The first Express Entry draw for Trade Occupations in 2024 was just held. Express Entry draw #300 saw a CRS score of 436 and invited 1,800 candidates eligible for category-based selection in specific occupations for this category.
To be invited in a trades-specific draw, you must first enter the Express Entry pool. You can qualify through one of three programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST)

After submitting your profile, you’ll receive a CRS score based on factors like age, education, and work experience. Use our CRS calculator for a detailed score breakdown and comparison.
If you qualify for a trades-focused draw, your profile will be marked eligible for a trades-specific Express Entry draw. Your CRS score will be ranked both overall and within the trades category.

Qualify for one of the three main programs: FSW, FST, or CEC.
Meet the minimum requirements, including the CRS cut-off and tiebreaker rules.
Have at least six months of full-time, continuous work experience (or equivalent part-time) in one eligible occupation
This is based on IRCC’s policies, but the Immigration Levels Plan for 2025-2027 indicates that trades draws will continue until at least November 2025. However, this plan is not a guarantee, and IRCC’s processing priorities may change at any time.
No fixed schedule for trades-specific draws; IRCC conducts them based on labor market needs.
In 2024, they happened roughly every six months but may vary.

Have at least 6 months of full-time, continuous work experience (or equivalent part-time) in the past 3 years.
Gain this experience in one eligible occupation listed below, either in Canada or abroad.
Meet all requirements outlined in the instructions for that specific round.
A job offer is not required but can improve your chances of being invited to apply.
You can apply for certification through a Canadian province or territory’s apprenticeship program.
You will need documents like proof of work experience, educational credentials, language test results, and possibly a certificate of qualification.
