Introduction

After a long wait, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) finally conducted a new Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Express Entry draw on May 27, 2026.

As a result, 3,000 candidates received invitations to apply for permanent residence (PR).

However, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cutoff score increased to 518, showing that competition in the Express Entry pool has become stronger.

Key Details of the May 27, 2026 Draw

Here are the main highlights of the latest CEC draw:

DetailInformation
ProgramCanadian Experience Class (CEC)
Draw DateMay 27, 2026

CRS Cutoff Score518

In addition, candidates with exactly 518 CRS points only received an invitation if they submitted their Express Entry profile before the tie-breaking date and time.

End of the Longest CEC Pause of 2026

This was the first CEC draw since April 28, 2026.

Therefore, the 29-day gap became the longest pause for CEC draws this year.

During this break, many new high-scoring candidates entered the Express Entry pool. Since no CEC invitations were issued during that period, competition increased significantly.

Why Did the CRS Score Increase to 518?

The CRS cutoff increased from 514 to 518 mainly because too many high-scoring candidates accumulated in the pool during the pause.

For example:

  • On May 10, there were 15,659 candidates in the CRS 501–600 range.
  • By May 24, that number increased to 17,945.

That means over 2,200 high-scoring candidates entered the pool in just two weeks.

As a result, the CRS score naturally increased.

However, IRCC also increased the draw size from 2,000 invitations to 3,000 invitations. Because of this, the CRS rise was controlled and did not climb even higher.

How This Draw Matched Predictions

Interestingly, immigration analysts had already predicted that IRCC might resume CEC draws with:

  • 2,000 to 3,000 invitations
  • CRS scores between 515 and 522

Therefore, the actual result of 3,000 invitations at CRS 518 fell almost exactly within those expectations.

What the Express Entry Pool Numbers Show

The latest Express Entry pool data clearly shows growing competition.

Between May 10 and May 24:

  • The total pool increased by 5,077 candidates.
  • The CRS 501–600 range increased by 14.6%.
  • The CRS 451–500 range also grew significantly.

Meanwhile, candidates scoring below 500 continue to face challenges because CEC cutoffs have remained very high throughout 2026.

The history of CEC draws in 2026 shows how invitation numbers directly affect CRS scores.

Earlier in the year:

  • IRCC issued 6,000 to 8,000 invitations.
  • CRS scores stayed around 507–511.

However, when invitation numbers dropped to 2,000 in April:

  • CRS scores immediately increased above 514.

Now, even with 3,000 invitations, the cutoff has reached 518.

Therefore, experts believe that CRS scores may remain high unless IRCC starts issuing larger numbers of invitations again.

What Could Happen Next?

Now that CEC draws have resumed, many candidates are wondering whether IRCC will also restart:

  • French-language draws
  • Healthcare category draws
  • Trades category draws
  • Education category draws

In previous years, IRCC often conducted multiple draw types within the same week.

Therefore, future draw activity will be closely watched by immigration candidates.

Important Update About Ontario PNP

Candidates should also pay attention to Ontario’s immigration program changes starting May 30, 2026.

Ontario is redesigning its Provincial Nominee Program (OINP), and all nine current streams will be revoked temporarily.

As a result, provincial nomination activity could slow down for some time.

What Invited Candidates Should Do Next

Candidates who received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) now have 60 days to submit their permanent residence application.

Required documents usually include:

  • Police clearance certificates
  • Medical exams
  • Proof of funds
  • Work experience letters
  • Language test results

Therefore, candidates should begin collecting documents immediately to avoid delays.

Advice for Candidates Who Missed This Draw

Candidates with CRS scores between 510 and 517 came very close to receiving an invitation.

Therefore, improving even a few CRS points could make a big difference in the next draw.

Possible ways to improve CRS scores include:

  • Retaking language tests
  • Gaining more work experience
  • Learning French
  • Securing a provincial nomination

Additionally, candidates below 500 CRS should consider category-based draws or Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), since some French-language draws in 2026 had CRS cutoffs as low as 393.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the May 27, 2026 CEC draw signals that Canada has restarted regular Express Entry activity after a long pause.

However, rising CRS scores also show that competition in the Express Entry pool is becoming tougher.

Therefore, candidates should continue improving their profiles, monitor upcoming draws closely, and stay prepared for future immigration opportunities in Canada.
