Best Provincial Nominee Programs for 2020
Want to Start a New Chapter of Your Canadian Life?
Every year, tens of thousands of foreign nationals choose Canada as their permanent home. Canada offers strong economic opportunities, a high quality of life, and clear immigration pathways.
One of the most effective ways to immigrate is through Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Therefore, understanding which PNP suits your profile is essential.
In this guide, we explain the best PNP options for foreign nationals who want to immigrate to Canada.
Understanding Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
Canada has 13 provinces and territories. Out of these, 11 provinces operate Provincial Nominee Programs.
Through PNPs, provinces select immigrants who meet their local labour market and economic needs. Moreover, nearly 80 different PNP streams exist, each with unique eligibility rules.
Most PNPs require a connection to the province, such as previous work experience, past study in the province, or a valid job offer.
However, several PNPs also allow candidates with no prior provincial connection to apply. These programs are especially attractive to applicants living outside Canada.
Best PNP Options Without Provincial Connection
1. Alberta Express Entry Stream
The Alberta Express Entry stream selects candidates directly from the federal Express Entry pool. Notably, Alberta often invites candidates with CRS scores as low as 300.
As a result, many applicants with moderate CRS scores receive a Notification of Interest.
Once nominated, a candidate gains 600 additional CRS points. Consequently, this almost guarantees an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in the next Express Entry draw.
2. Saskatchewan International Skilled Worker Program
Saskatchewan offers two strong options for overseas applicants: the Saskatchewan Express Entry Stream and the Saskatchewan Occupation In-Demand Stream.
Importantly, the Occupation In-Demand stream does not require an Express Entry profile.
This program targets skilled workers who can fill labour shortages in Saskatchewan. Therefore, if you have at least one year of experience in an in-demand occupation, this pathway may suit you well.
3. Ontario Human Capital Priorities Stream
Ontario remains one of Canada’s most popular immigration destinations. In addition, cities like Toronto serve as major hubs for technology, finance, and multinational companies.
Ontario’s Human Capital Priorities stream targets skilled workers living outside Canada. To qualify, applicants must have an active Express Entry profile and hold a CRS score of 400 or higher.
Ontario regularly searches the Express Entry pool and invites selected candidates. However, the province does not publicly disclose exact selection criteria, and requirements may change.
4. Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities Stream
Nova Scotia conducts targeted draws aligned with Express Entry. In each draw, the province selects candidates from specific NOC codes.
Although Nova Scotia does not announce targeted occupations in advance, eligible candidates have a strong chance if their NOC appears.
Additionally, this stream often does not require a job offer, making it highly attractive for overseas applicants.
5. Manitoba Skilled Worker Overseas Stream
Manitoba offers opportunities for candidates who have a demonstrated connection to the province.
You may qualify if you have a close relative or friend in Manitoba, have studied or worked in Manitoba, or have participated in Manitoba’s recruitment initiatives.
Moreover, applicants must have at least one year of experience in an occupation listed on Manitoba’s In-Demand Occupation List.
Why Choose the Right PNP Strategy?
Each province targets different skills and profiles. Therefore, choosing the right PNP significantly improves your chances of success.
Additionally, a provincial nomination accelerates your pathway to permanent residence and increases your CRS score substantially.
