Latest OINP Tech Draw – August 2019

On August 1, 2019, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) conducted a targeted Tech Draw under Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream.
As part of this draw, Ontario issued targeted Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to eligible Express Entry candidates.

Occupations Targeted in the Draw

In this round, Ontario specifically focused on candidates with work experience in key technology occupations. As a result, the following NOC codes were targeted:

  • 2173 – Software engineers and designers
  • 2174 – Computer programmers and interactive media developers
  • 2147 – Computer engineers
  • 2175 – Web designers and developers
  • 2172 – Database analysts and data administrators
  • 0213 – Computer and information systems managers

Eligibility Requirements for Nomination

To qualify for a provincial nomination, applicants had to demonstrate relevant work experience in at least one of the six eligible NOC codes. Importantly, Ontario could refuse applications that failed to meet this requirement.

Therefore, candidates needed to carefully match their job duties and experience with the selected NOC code to avoid refusal.

Why Ontario Conducts Targeted Tech Draws

Through this targeted approach, the Ontario government aims to support its growing technology sector. Specifically, these draws make it easier for tech companies to attract and retain skilled professionals from around the world.

How Ontario Selected Priority Occupations

To ensure the Tech Draw met real labour market needs, Ontario actively consulted stakeholders across the province. For example, the government conducted employer surveys and held face-to-face consultations. As a result, Ontario identified priority technology occupations that directly support business growth and innovation.

Key Takeaway

Overall, the August 2019 OINP Tech Draw highlights Ontario’s strategic focus on technology talent. By prioritizing in-demand tech roles, the province strengthens its workforce while offering skilled professionals a clear pathway to permanent residence.
