IRCC Invites 3,725 Candidates in October 10 Express Entry Draw
Express Entry Update: 3,725 Candidates Invited on October 10, 2023
On October 10, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3,725 Invitations to Apply through an Express Entry draw with no specific program announced. As a result, candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 500 to receive an invitation.
Recap of Express Entry Draws During the Week of September 25
In the previous weeks, IRCC conducted several important Express Entry draws. Together, these rounds demonstrated a shift toward targeted and strategic selection.
First, on September 26, IRCC held an all-program draw. During this round, the department invited 3,000 candidates. The minimum CRS score for this draw stood at 504.
Next, on September 27, IRCC conducted a category-based draw focused on French-speaking candidates. In this round, 500 candidates received invitations. To qualify, candidates needed a minimum CRS score of 472.
Finally, on September 28, IRCC held a draw targeting agriculture and agri-food occupations. This draw marked the first category-based selection for this sector. As a result, 600 candidates received invitations with a notably low CRS cut-off of 354.
Most importantly, this final draw confirmed that IRCC had issued invitations across all six newly introduced category-based selection streams.
Express Entry Draw Trends in 2022
In its annual Express Entry report released on September 26, IRCC shared key insights from 2022. Throughout the year, the department conducted 24 Express Entry draws and issued a total of 46,539 Invitations to Apply.
However, this figure represented a 59% decline compared to 2021, when IRCC issued 114,431 invitations. This decrease occurred mainly because IRCC paused Federal High Skilled draws between September 2021 and July 2022.
Despite the pause, most invitations in 2022 went to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Specifically, IRCC issued 19,258 invitations to PNP candidates and 18,895 invitations to CEC candidates.
Canada’s 2023 Express Entry Shift Toward Economic Priorities
In May 2023, IRCC introduced six new Express Entry categories. Before launching these categories, the department consulted provincial governments and industry stakeholders.
As a result, these categories now reflect Canada’s evolving labour market needs. While they share similarities with Provincial Nominee Programs, they allow candidates to apply directly for permanent residence through IRCC.
Therefore, Canada now uses Express Entry more strategically to support both national and regional economic goals.
How Express Entry Works
Express Entry manages permanent residence applications under three federal programs. These include the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
Candidates receive CRS scores based on factors such as age, education, work experience, and language ability. Consequently, higher-ranking candidates receive Invitations to Apply.
Once eligible, candidates create an online profile and wait for IRCC to issue invitations. In most cases, IRCC aims to process 80% of Express Entry applications within six months, making it one of the fastest immigration pathways.
