The Immigration ministers of Canada deliver an update on the country’s key priorities

The immigration ministers of Canada delivered an update on the country’s key priorities.
The Forum of Immigration Ministers recently explored ways to achieve shared aims. In their last meeting, the ministers aimed to maximize the effectiveness of the immigration system to meet economic and regional needs, including increasing provincial/territorial (PT) involvement in the selection process.

Proposal for a Multi-Year Provincial Nominee Program and an Atlantic Immigration Program

Significantly, the ministers approved the first multi-year Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) plan. This strategy will help provinces and territories plan ahead of time for immigration admissions and settlement. Arlene Dunn, the minister responsible for immigration in New Brunswick, stated on behalf of the provinces and territories that governments and territories are best placed to pick economic immigrants. Minister Dunn stated that expanding the PNP, AIP, and Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot will assist in reducing the IRCC backlog and improve processing times so clients can be better served and their needs met. The strategy calls for a 44% increase in PNP allocations in 2023.

Immigration jurisdiction is shared

The Provincial Nominee Program is a major component of this shared obligation (PNP). With the exception of Quebec and Nunavut, each province has its own PNP via which candidates for permanent residency (PR) can indicate a preference to work and live in a specific province. Québec has its own immigration system.

If the provincial government considers the candidate can easily integrate into the workforce and contribute to the provincial economy, they may award them a provincial nomination. Being nominated does not automatically imply that the candidate is a permanent resident, but it can help strengthen their application to the federal government.

Finally, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have the final word on how many people are invited to apply for PR under a PNP.

According to the Immigration Levels Strategy 2023-2025, PNP admissions will continue to outnumber federal high-skilled (Express Entry) admissions through 2025.

Immigration drawings are held on a regular basis by provinces and territories. This week, British Columbia, Ontario, and Manitoba held PNP draws, while Quebec held a draw under its own method.

What are the New Changes on work permit holders in Canada, and can I change my visitor visa to a work visa?

Canada has made it possible for individuals who hold a Visitor visa to have the opportunity to work and potentially become permanent residents, this is a major change when it comes to Visitor visa holders to work in Canada in 2023 as the Canadian government has recently on 28th February 2023  announced a new update regarding work permits for foreign visitors who are currently residing in Canada. This temporary policy has been extended for an additional two years, allowing visitors to continue applying for work permits while on a Visitors Visa.

This policy was first introduced in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which had caused disruptions in international travel and prevented many foreign visitors from returning to their home countries. There were various temporary policies aimed to address this issue by allowing eligible visitors who were already in Canada to easily apply for work permits without having to leave the country.

Under this policy, visitors who meet certain eligibility criteria, such as holding a valid visitor status or having applied for an extension of their visitor status, may be able to apply for a work permit from within Canada.

What are the eligibility criteria for you to work in Canada with a valid visitor visa

  1. The status of your visa should be valid when you apply for a work permit.
  2. Have a valid job offer which is supported by the Labour Market Impact Assessment or LMIA-exempt offer.
  3. Apply for an employer-specific work permit (not later than 28th Feb) and also meet other standard criteria.

Interim-authorization to work in Canada

The interim authorization to work in Canada is designed to help foreign nationals who are already in Canada and have submitted a work permit application, but whose application has not yet been processed. Without the interim authorization, these individuals would not be able to work while their application is being processed, which could cause financial difficulties and other challenges.

Overall, the extension of this temporary policy will provide significant benefits for both foreign visitors and Canadian employers. It will help to address the ongoing challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and enable skilled workers to continue contributing to the Canadian economy while they are in the country.

After IELTS and CELPIP being the most popular and the only language proficiency test The IRCC has recently introduced a new update regarding the acceptance of PTE (Pearson Test of English) as a language proficiency test after IELTS and CELPIP for immigration purposes. The IRCC has recognized the PTE as a valid and reliable assessment tool to evaluate the language skills of immigrants and refugees who wish to come to Canada.

IRCC’s New update on Canadian Immigration on Language Proficiency Test

This new update of introducing PTE will allow individuals who are seeking immigration to Canada to demonstrate their English language proficiency by taking the PTE test. The IRCC’s decision to accept the PTE aligns with its commitment to streamline the immigration process and provide a more flexible and accessible approach to language assessment. The PTE test results are usually available within five business days, which is a significant improvement compared to other language proficiency tests that may take several weeks to receive the results.

The IRCC has also outlined the minimum scores required for different immigration programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class. These minimum scores are set to ensure that individuals who wish to come to Canada have the necessary language skills to integrate into Canadian society and succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.

This is a simple blog aimed at helping you with your study visa application for the 2023 intake.

When applying for a study visa, there are various things to keep in mind. Let’s explore and simplify these aspects to help you start your study visa application process.

Check your passport:

One of the most important things that is often forgotten when preparing for a study visa application is the validity of your passport. It is crucial to make sure your passport is up to date, as this is not something that can be taken care of at the last minute.

Valid acceptance letter from a DLI-approved college or university:

A valid acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) is an essential requirement for obtaining a study visa in Canada. The DLI must be recognized by the Canadian government and listed on the government’s website. The acceptance letter should include the program you have been admitted to, the start and end dates of the program, and the name of the institution.

Language Proficiency test

Employers in Canada want to attract talent to work in their companies and they want fast and strategic process to do, to help the employer IRCC -Immigration and Refugee and Citizenship Canada along with Employment and Social development, ESDC introduced Global Skilled Strategy (GSS)- a program which has helped tens of thousands skilled talents to migrate to Canada.

What is the Main purpose for GTS?

Canadian employers can hire foreign workers with specialized knowledge and experience for positions which they can’t fulfil locally which they can suffice by recruiting talents from all over the world under Global Talent Stream.

What are the Key Elements for Global Stream Program?

  • Two-week standard for processing Canada work permit application
  • Benefit for companies looking to make a significant job creating Investment in Canada
  • Dropping of the work permit requirements for short-term highly skilled labour

  2. The Visa processing time is very quick.
  3. You can apply for this from anywhere in the world.
  4. Your work permit can be for 3 years.

How does GTS Work

All the TFWP Immigration streams use LMIA which is the Labour Market Impact Assessment to check if a Canadian Employer can hire a foreign worker. An LMIA is a document that assess whether the available position can be filled by a Canadian talent. A positive LMIA indicates that there is no Canadian talent available to fill the position and thus you are allowed to hire talents from other Countries.

Now the only issue with LMIA is that it’s a time-consuming process and takes months to process. In the modern times, it is very hard to stand amidst the competing global markets with a long hiring system like this and therefore Global Talent Stream was introduced which helps Canadian employers to bring talent much faster.

The Global Talent Stream is part of a broader Global Skills Strategy to directly help Canadian businesses including start-ups. It also gives you easy access to Canada work permit.`

The government of Canada has opened wide doors for international students as IRCC Canada has released their response to CIMM to take measures for the betterment of overseas students. This change will be very beneficial as even though Canada is a popular destination for all of them, there are still cases where students are placed in a vulnerable situation during their Study Abroad Journey.

There are three main objectives established by IRCC for the benefit of International Students

1. Attracting more international students

2. Ensuring equality through International Students Program

3. Improving service for international students in Study Permit and Immigration Process

Why Study in Canada?

Canada has been a popular destination for students from India for many years, known for its excellent quality of education no matter which province you choose to study in, Now when you move to a foreign country, you face a cultural shock that hinders your experience of your so-called ‘Study Abroad Journey’, but Canada is a land of different ethnicities and therefore, the such dilemma doesn’t arise here.

The number of Study permit holders will increase to approximately 753,000 International students. This means, is there will be more opportunities for students to Study in Canada.

Let’s have a detailed look at the favorable commitments made by IRCC to CIMM:

Expansion of SDS

IRCC has promised an expansion to the SDS which is the Students Direct Stream in which Canada is making it easier for international students from certain Asian and African countries to study in Canada. The Student Direct Stream, which was launched in 2018, allows eligible foreign students from fourteen countries to speed the processing of their Canadian study permit

Improving the Quality of the International Students Program
