Canada Works to Stop Fraud in Express Entry Applications!

New Measure to Reduce Fraud

The Canadian government will introduce major changes to its immigration system in spring 2025. From that point on, Express Entry candidates will no longer receive extra points for having a job offer. This update aims to reduce fraud and remove the incentive for buying or selling documents that unfairly boost CRS scores.

Why the Change?

The government wants to stop applicants from using fraudulent LMIAs to increase their chances of selection. Many people try to manipulate the system by securing fake job offers. As a result, genuine applicants face unfair competition. By removing job-offer points, the government strengthens the selection process and ensures a more trustworthy system.

Who Will Be Affected?

This rule affects all new and current candidates who have not yet received an Invitation to Apply (ITA). It applies to people inside Canada and those applying from abroad. However, anyone who already received an ITA—or has a PR application under review—can continue without disruption. Therefore, only candidates waiting for an ITA will feel the impact.

Immigration’s Role in Canada’s Growth

Immigration continues to drive Canada’s economic development. Because the country depends on skilled workers, the government wants the system to remain fair and transparent. Removing extra points for job offers helps ensure candidates earn their scores honestly. In addition, it keeps the focus on real skills and not on purchased or manipulated documents.

A Commitment to Fairness

Minister Marc Miller emphasized that the new measures target fraud, not talent. Canada will continue attracting skilled workers, but it wants them to succeed through genuine qualifications. Furthermore, the government is committed to improving the immigration system so it stays efficient, transparent, and fair for everyone.

A Stronger System for the Future

These changes form part of a larger effort to build a more responsible immigration system. By reducing opportunities for fraud, Canada protects both applicants and the integrity of the program. Ultimately, this keeps Canada a trusted and welcoming destination for qualified newcomers.
