Options After Graduation
Apply to Change Status to Visitor
If you’re not yet ready to leave Canada or start working, you can apply to change your status to a visitor. This allows you to remain legally in Canada while deciding your next steps or preparing another application.
Apply for a New Work Permit
Graduates who meet eligibility criteria — such as having a valid job offer — may apply for another work permit, including employer-specific ones. This lets you continue gaining Canadian work experience without interruption.
Apply for Another Study Permit
If you plan to pursue further education, such as a Master’s degree after your Bachelor’s, you can apply for a new study permit. Continuing your studies keeps your legal status active while advancing your qualifications in Canada.
Leave Canada
If you don’t plan to extend your stay, you must leave Canada within 90 days after completing your studies. Departing before your status expires ensures future applications remain smooth and compliant with IRCC rules.
What is SDS Category ?
Fast-track option: Student Direct Stream (SDS)
The Student Direct Stream is a fast-track study permit option for eligible students from select countries who can provide upfront proof of funds and meet higher language requirements. Designed to simplify and speed up the visa process, SDS applications are usually processed within 20 calendar days, provided all documents are complete. Students must show a Guaranteed Investment Certificate, proof of tuition payment for the first year, and an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in each band.

How can I renew or extend my study permit in Canada?
If your study permit is about to expire but you plan to continue studying in Canada, you must apply for a renewal or extension at least 30 days before it expires. You’ll need to show proof of enrolment, financial support, and a valid passport. Applying early ensures you maintain legal status and can keep studying without interruption.
