Financial Proof Requirements for Canada Study permit Application
Introduction
If you’re applying for a Canadian study permit, it’s not just about getting accepted to a college or university — you also need to prove that you can financially support yourself (and your family, if they’re coming with you).
This step is very important because it helps the Canadian government make sure that international students can afford their time in Canada without needing to work right away or facing financial struggles.
Proof of Financial Support
To get a study permit for Canada, you must show that you can afford to live and study in Canada without needing a job.
This means you need to prove you have enough money for:
- Tuition fees for your course or program
- Living expenses for yourself and any family members coming with you
- Travel costs to go to and return from Canada
What Counts as Proof?
To support your application, you need to submit at least one of the following documents:
- Receipt or proof that you’ve paid tuition and housing fees
- If your course is more than one year, you must prove you’ve paid for the first year
- Evidence that you can cover living and travel expenses, such as:
- A Canadian bank account in your name
- A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a Canadian bank
- A student or education loan
- Bank statements from the past 4 months
- A bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars
- A letter from someone or a school giving you financial support
- Proof of scholarships or funding from a Canadian source
Important: If your country has rules about sending money abroad, you’ll also need to prove that you’re allowed to send enough money to Canada for your expenses.
