How to Avoid PGWP Application Mistakes
Why Some Students Are Getting Refused
Recently, some international graduates had their PGWP applications refused because they did not upload two important documents:
- Language test results
- Proof of eligible field of study
This happened because IRCC’s online portal did not show any upload section for these documents.
As a result, many students assumed they were not required — and left them out.
What This Means for Students
If these documents are missing, IRCC may refuse the application.
Therefore, students could lose:
- Their chance to work in Canada
- Their pathway to Permanent Residence (PR)
IRCC’s New Instructions (Updated December 10)
To solve the confusion, IRCC has now added a new section on its website explaining how to submit these documents properly.
This update includes:
- How to upload language test proof
- How to upload field of study documents
- What to do if you already submitted your application without them
- Who needs to submit what
How to Upload Required Documents
Where to Upload Documents (Important!)
IRCC still does NOT show a separate slot for:
- Language test results
- Eligible field of study proof
Instead, IRCC says you must upload these documents in the “Client Information” section.
Keep in mind:
- Only one file stays saved in “Client Information.”
- If you upload a second file, it will replace the first one.
- Therefore, you must combine all documents into ONE PDF before uploading.
- You may need to compress the file to match system size limits.
Already Submitted Without These Documents?
What To Do Now
If you have already applied and forgot the documents, don’t worry — you can still add them.
Use the IRCC Web Form:
- Go to “Ask about or update your application.”
- Select “Add a document to your application.”
- Choose “I’m the principal applicant.”
- Enter your details, including:
- Application number
- UCI number
- At the end, when asked:
- “Did we ask for these documents?” → Choose “No.”
- Upload your documents (multiple files allowed, total size under 3.5MB).
This allows IRCC to attach your missing documents to your file.
In Summary
Because of system limitations, IRCC didn’t show upload slots for language and field of study documents. However, these documents are still required.
So now:
- Upload them in Client Information (combined as one file)
- If already submitted, use the IRCC web form
- Language tests are for everyone
- Field of study proof is only for some programs
