Newfoundland Holds Second Immigration Draw of 2026
On March 30, 2026, Newfoundland conducted its second provincial immigration draw of the year. In total, the province invited 245 candidates to apply for immigration, showing that it continues to actively select skilled workers early in the year.
Programs Used for Invitations
The province issued invitations through two main immigration pathways. Firstly, the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), and secondly, the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
Out of all the invitations, around 85% went to NLPNP candidates, making it the primary route for selection.
Draw Details
In this draw, the province distributed invitations as follows:
- NLPNP: 209 invitations
- AIP: 36 invitations
However, the authorities did not specify which streams under the NLPNP they used. Even so, it is clear that most candidates came through this program.
Comparison with the Previous Draw
When we compare this draw to the first one held on March 6, 2026, we see fewer invitations overall. However, the province still maintains a steady pace in inviting candidates.
Total Invitations Issued in 2026 So Far
So far in 2026, Newfoundland has issued a total of 690 invitations across both programs. Out of these:
- 571 invitations went to NLPNP candidates
- 119 invitations went to AIP candidates
This trend clearly shows that the NLPNP continues to dominate the selection process.
How 2026 Compares to Last Year
Interestingly, in 2025, the province held its first draw on April 3. In contrast, it started draws earlier in March in 2026.
As a result:
- The province began selecting candidates earlier
- It issued more invitations at the start of the year
Expected Nomination Numbers for 2026
Although the province has not yet announced the official nomination allocation for 2026, we can estimate based on past trends.
In 2025, Newfoundland received 2,525 nominations in total. Since most provinces received equal or higher allocations this year, Newfoundland may receive at least 2,525 nomination spots in 2026, if not more.
How Candidates Are Selected
Since February 2025, both the NLPNP and AIP follow an Expression of Interest (EOI) system.
To begin with, candidates submit an EOI form that includes details about their:
- Occupation
- Education
- Language skills
- Intention to live in Newfoundland
After that, the province reviews profiles and invites the most suitable candidates.
Key Requirement to Apply
Most candidates must have a valid job offer to qualify under these programs. However, some entrepreneur streams under the NLPNP do not require one.
What Happens After Receiving an Invitation
Once a candidate receives an invitation, they must act quickly. Specifically, they have 60 days to submit a full application.
After submission, the province reviews the application in detail.
Validity of Expression of Interest
An Expression of Interest stays valid for 12 months. However, if a candidate does not receive an invitation within this period, the profile expires. In that case, the candidate must submit a new EOI to re-enter the pool.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Newfoundland’s second draw of 2026 highlights a steady and proactive approach to immigration. Although the number of invitations dropped slightly compared to the previous draw, the province continues to prioritize skilled candidates, especially through the NLPNP.
Therefore, candidates with strong profiles and valid job offers have better chances of receiving an invitation in upcoming draws.
