Canada Invites 2,000 CEC Candidates in Latest Express Entry Draw
Canada Issues 2,000 PR Invitations Through CEC Draw
Canada has invited more candidates to apply for permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under the Express Entry system. On July 7, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 2,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs).
Here’s everything you need to know in simple words.
Express Entry CEC Draw Highlights
To begin with, here are the key details of the latest draw:
- Draw Date: July 7, 2026
- Program: Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Invitations Issued: 2,000
- Minimum CRS Score: 517
- Tie-Breaking Rule: December 29, 2025, at 17:49:27 UTC
Candidates with a CRS score of 517 or higher who submitted their profile before the tie-breaking date received an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
Why Did the CRS Score Increase?
This time, the CRS cutoff increased by just one point, from 516 to 517.
However, this does not mean competition became tougher. Instead, IRCC simply invited fewer candidates than in the previous CEC draw.
- Previous CEC Draw: 4,000 invitations
- Latest CEC Draw: 2,000 invitations
As a result, only the top 2,000 candidates received invitations, which pushed the minimum CRS score up by one point.
Why Were Fewer Invitations Issued?
Compared to the previous CEC draw, IRCC reduced the number of invitations by 50%.
Because fewer candidates were invited, the selection stopped at a higher-ranked group in the Express Entry pool. Therefore, the CRS cutoff increased slightly.
Who Can Apply Under the Canadian Experience Class?
The Canadian Experience Class is designed for people who already have skilled work experience in Canada.
To be eligible, candidates generally must:
- Have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada.
- Gain that experience within the last three years.
- Have worked in eligible TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupations.
In addition, many international graduates who stay and work in Canada after completing their studies often qualify under this program.
IRCC Continues Its July Draw Pattern
Meanwhile, this was the second Express Entry draw in two days.
On July 6, 2026, IRCC invited 534 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. With the CEC draw following the next day, it appears that IRCC is continuing its usual pattern of holding multiple Express Entry draws during the first week of the month.
What Draws Could Happen Next?
Looking ahead, more Express Entry draws are expected later this week.
These may include:
- A French-language proficiency draw.
- A smaller occupation-based draw for priority sectors such as healthcare, trades, or STEM.
Although IRCC has not officially confirmed these draws, similar draw patterns have been seen throughout 2026.
What Should Candidates Do Now?
If you received an invitation, make sure to prepare and submit your permanent residence application before the deadline.
On the other hand, if your CRS score was below 517, you can improve your chances by:
- Retaking a language test to earn a higher score.
- Updating your education or work experience.
- Applying for a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which can add 600 CRS points.
- Keeping your Express Entry profile updated with accurate information.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the latest CEC draw invited 2,000 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 517. Although the CRS score increased by one point, the change was mainly because IRCC issued fewer invitations—not because competition increased.
Furthermore, with IRCC continuing its July draw schedule, more Express Entry invitations could be announced in the coming days. Therefore, eligible candidates should keep their profiles updated and be ready for upcoming opportunities.
