Canada Invites Skilled Military Recruits Through Express Entry
Introduction
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has held another Express Entry draw, but this time it focused on Skilled Military Recruits. This is the first draw under this category since IRCC introduced it in February 2026.

IRCC Issued 4 Invitations
On July 23, 2026, IRCC issued 4 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence through the Skilled Military Recruits category.
To receive an invitation, candidates needed to:
- Have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 368.
- Create their Express Entry profile before 8:11 p.m. UTC on June 2, 2026.
Although the number of invitations was very small, the draw marked an important milestone for Canada’s immigration system.
Smallest Express Entry Draw So Far
This draw also became the smallest Express Entry draw ever held.
While previous Express Entry rounds often invited hundreds or even thousands of candidates, IRCC invited only four candidates in this selection round.
However, the low number of invitations does not mean the category is unimportant. Instead, it reflects the specialized nature of the Skilled Military Recruits stream.

Moreover, the department has mainly focused on candidates who already have Canadian work experience or a provincial nomination.

What Does This Mean for Express Entry Candidates?
The latest draw shows that IRCC continues to expand category-based selections to meet Canada’s workforce needs.
At the same time, the department remains focused on inviting candidates with Canadian work experience, provincial nominations, and strong French-language skills. Therefore, candidates who qualify under these categories may continue to have better chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply.
Meanwhile, specialized categories such as Skilled Military Recruits allow IRCC to address specific labour shortages, even if only a small number of candidates qualify.
