What the Latest Express Entry Pool Update Means for Applicants
Express Entry Pool Update
Canada has released the latest Express Entry pool data, showing some important changes between June 21 and July 5, 2026. Overall, the number of candidates in the pool has decreased, especially among those with higher CRS scores.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what it means.
Overall Express Entry Pool Has Become Smaller
To begin with, the total number of candidates in the Express Entry pool dropped from 239,645 to 235,127. This means there are 4,518 fewer profiles in the pool compared to the previous update.
High-Scoring Candidate Numbers Have Decreased
One of the biggest changes is that the number of candidates with CRS scores above 500 has gone down.
- Candidates with 501–600 CRS dropped by 1,401
- Candidates with 601–1,200 CRS dropped by 416
As a result, the total number of top-scoring candidates decreased from 20,953 to 19,136.
This is mainly because many of these candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in recent Express Entry draws.
Most Score Ranges Saw Small Changes
Meanwhile, some CRS score ranges increased slightly, while others saw a decline.
Score ranges that increased
- 401–410
- 411–420
- 421–430
- 431–440
- 441–450
- 451–460
This shows that new candidates are continuing to enter the Express Entry pool.
Score ranges that decreased
- 351–400
- 471–480
- 481–490
- 491–500
- 501–600
These decreases were mainly due to candidates receiving invitations during recent draws.
How Competitive Is the Express Entry Pool?
According to the latest data, the largest group of candidates falls within the 351–400 CRS score range, making up around 22% of the entire pool.
At the same time, only about 8% of candidates have CRS scores between 501 and 600, while just 0.22% have scores above 600.
This shows that higher CRS scores remain less common but are still the most competitive when it comes to receiving invitations.
Latest Draws Are Not Included in This Data
It is important to note that this July 5 data does not include the two most recent Express Entry draws held afterward.
These draws were:
- July 6: Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw – 534 invitations (minimum CRS 708)
- July 7: Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw – 2,000 invitations (minimum CRS 517)
Therefore, the number of high-scoring candidates is expected to decrease even further in the next pool update.
What Caused These Changes?
Between June 21 and July 5, Canada held four Express Entry draws, issuing a total of 9,226 invitations.
These included:
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Physicians with Canadian work experience
- Healthcare and Social Services occupations
Consequently, thousands of candidates were invited to apply for permanent residence, reducing the overall size of the Express Entry pool.
How Does Express Entry Work?
Express Entry is Canada’s system for selecting skilled workers who want to become permanent residents outside Quebec.
To enter the pool, candidates must qualify for one of the eligible immigration programs. They then receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on factors such as:
- Age
- Education
- Language proficiency
- Work experience
After that, Canada regularly conducts Express Entry draws and invites the highest-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence.
Additionally, Canada also holds category-based draws, which target candidates with skills in priority sectors such as:
- Healthcare and social services
- Trades
- Education
- Transportation
- French-language proficiency
Final Thoughts
Overall, the latest Express Entry data shows that the pool is becoming slightly smaller, particularly among high-scoring candidates. Recent invitation rounds have reduced the number of candidates with CRS scores above 500, while new profiles continue to enter the pool across other score ranges.
With additional draws already held after July 5, the next Express Entry pool update may show an even bigger drop in the number of top-scoring candidates.
